Children's Square U.S.A. Holds Campaign "Tip-Off"

On Friday, May 15, Children’s Square U.S.A. held a “tip-off” event to announce its “Better Spaces, Brighter Futures!” capital campaign. The event, held in the Lied Children’s Complex on the Children’s Square U.S.A. campus at North 6th Street & Avenue E in Council Bluffs, featured a “meet and greet” with Creighton Head Basketball Coach Greg McDermott, campus tours and a brief program.

Campaign Chairs Dick Miller and Dr. Alan Fischer announced the campaign and reported that $5.2 million of the $9 million goal is already raised. They encouraged the community’s participation to create better spaces for the children at Children’s Square U.S.A with the construction of a new Residential Treatment Complex and renovation of the Academic Center.

According to Carol Wood, President & CEO, of Children’s Square U.S.A., the need for new facilities for the campus is part of the organization’s ongoing story.

“Throughout our history we have adapted and changed our facilities many times to meet the needs of children with challenges to ensure they could have brighter futures,” she said.

Iowa West Foundation President Pete Tulipana said, ‘Children’s Square U.S.A. plays an important role in serving children in Council Bluffs and Southwest Iowa who have emotional and behavioral difficulties, and Iowa West Foundation is pleased to support these projects.”

Iowa West Foundation has provided a lead gift of $2.7 million to the campaign.

Special guest Creighton Head Basketball Coach Greg McDermott also urged community support for the campaign, which he said will provide better spaces for children, spaces that are better designed, more secure, accessible and welcoming for families.

“I know from experience that the Council Bluffs-Omaha community is a caring place that gets behind its teams, causes and agencies like Children’s Square U.S.A.,” McDermott said. “Together, through the “Better Spaces, Brighter Futures!” campaign, we can give children a brighter future by providing them opportunities to gain life skills, values, and the academic success necessary for life.”

The program ended as McDermott officially launched the campaign with a “tip-off”.
